[](https://postimg.cc/673sHgyv) We have community outreach and education programs in Africa which included indoor classroom sessions with toolkits for students to integrate Kenyan native flora and fauna into the local curriculum and outdoor activities such as mangrove planting, plastic management and restoration of indigenous tress. These programs were in collaboration with local authorities such as Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs in community brazas such as Rabai, Kaya Chonyi and mangrove planting communities.
Our 3 full-time education officers engaged 10,000+ students from 20 primary and tertiary schools in Africa, to share emerging conservation issues and equip the wider public with sustainable environmental practices such as the conservation of natural resources.
We built several terrestrial tree nurseries including a small one at a biological relic called Cha Simba and a large nursery at our base, Pwani university. In these nurseries we propagate over 180+ different species of native trees and shrubs. We focus on threatened and red listed species and then plant them out both ex situ in Pwani University as a seed bank and in situ at our conservation sites. [](https://postimg.cc/mPkzCD87)
We propagated over 30,000 trees from 180+ species including 28 threatened species. We have engaged over 30 volunteers and given jobs to 12 nursery workers. We planted over 8,000+ species with a 74% survival rate. We worked with 4 community groups, benefitting over 60 people from…
[](https://postimg.cc/5HLfcdsX) We built two community nurseries, trained the communities in seed collection and propagation of mangrove seeds and propagules. We organised large planting events bringing the wider community together to restore degraded mangrove forests that not only act to bring people together but also act as massive carbon stores in the fight against climate change and harbours of biodiversity, acting as nursery grounds for fish including sharks and rays alongside the fish forming a large part of local diets.
We engaged over 300 volunteers and 33 community members, built two community nurseries, planted over 82,561 mangroves (76% survival rate) from all 7 species of mangrove found in the project area. We also brought these communities an alternative livelihood with mangrove purchases…
