Many important coordination processes depend on sensitive information.
Markets need to clear. Votes need to be tallied. Institutions need to collaborate. Models and analyses often require inputs from multiple independent parties.
Today, these processes usually require one of two compromises: make the information visible, or place execution under the control of a trusted intermediary. Even when data is encrypted, the execution layer is often still controlled by a single operator, creating concentrated authority over runtime conditions, decryption, failure modes, and outcome release.
This limits participation, increases exposure, and prevents many high-value forms of coordination from being safely executed.
The Interfold distributes execution authority across a network of independent operators.
For each confidential coordination process, encrypted inputs are brought into an ephemeral Encrypted Execution Environment (E3), processed under defined program logic, verified, and released only when threshold-governed conditions are met.
This allows private inputs to contribute to shared outcomes without being exposed to other participants, a central operator, or trusted hardware. The result is a system where confidentiality, correct execution, and verifiability can coexist across multiparty processes.
Initial application areas include secret ballots, sealed-bid auctions, confidential analytics, and other coordination systems that require private inputs and public confidence in the result.
The Interfold is a protocol-governed network. Its long-term business model is based on network usage and operator participation. Requesters pay fees to instantiate confidential coordination processes, such as sealed-bid auctions, secret ballots, or encrypted multiparty computations. Independent ciphernode operators participate in the network and are compensated for enforcing threshold-governed execution, decryption, and outcome release. The project is currently pre-mainnet, so fee mechanics and token-based participation will be introduced in later phases.
