The Dharma Code

Dharma Code is a groundbreaking Web3-powered film project. Using blockchain, the project enables decentralized film financing, where individuals and organizations can hold tokenized ownership stakes. NFTs will grant access to exclusive content (behind-the-scenes, digital art, and premiere events), while smart contracts ensure transparent revenue sharing with investors and fair compensation for creators, including local Bhutanese talent. The platform also serves as an educational tool to introduce blockchain and AI production workflows to Bhutan’s emerging creative economy, supported by partnerships with local institutions and government.

The inaugural film for this platform is The Dharma Code, a sci-fi drama set in a near-future Bhutan, where a powerful AI trained on centuries of Buddhist philosophy begins to evolve beyond its intended function. As it becomes self-aware, the AI begins making decisions that challenge traditional beliefs and government control. A young Bhutanese data scientist and a monk must navigate the tension between ancestral wisdom and emergent technology to prevent societal collapse—or transformation. The film explores themes of spirituality vs. automation, collective memory, and digital destiny.

Our platform is built with creators and communities at the center. The platform is an open-source, blockchain-native film and creative platform that combines an easy-to-use interface that makes funding and tracking projects easy and interactive. The platform allows users to fund, govern, and participate in film production through intuitive token-based ownership, NFT utility, and smart contract-enabled revenue sharing. Fans, artists, and local talent are not just consumers—they are stakeholders, able to vote on decisions, receive royalties transparently, and access educational tools that introduce them to Web3.

1. Representation
   Dharma Code directly amplifies underrepresented non-Western narratives by producing a high-quality sci-fi film rooted in Bhutanese culture, philosophy, and identity. Rather than imposing external narratives, our first film is co-developed with Bhutanese creatives, led by acclaimed Bhutanese director Tandin Sonam, and draws inspiration from Buddhist thought and indigenous perspectives on technology, AI. The film will explore Buddhist text could aid in creating a benevolent AI.

By integrating blockchain as a tool for creative ownership, the project ensures that Bhutanese voices maintain autonomy and control over how their stories are told, shared, and monetized. In doing so, Dharma Code helps counter cultural erasure, offering a globally visible platform that centers local values and traditions within a future-facing narrative.

The project also creates a new distribution model where Bhutanese creators and communities participate not only as contributors, but as stakeholders—reclaiming space in global digital storytelling.

2. Education & Digital Inclusion
   Dharma Code serves as a Web3 and digital literacy accelerator for Bhutan. Through partnerships with local institutions, the project will host workshops, trainings, and hands-on production labs introducing Bhutanese creators to:

• Smart contract development for creative industries
• AI-assisted filmmaking tools and decentralized workflows

This focus on capacity building aims to close the digital skills gap, equipping artists and students with the tools they need to participate in the global creative economy on their own terms. Educational materials and protocols developed during the project will be made open-source and adaptable for other emerging markets.

3. Creating Access for Bhutanese Artists

Bhutan's creative economy suffers from lack of infrastructure, funding, and visibility. Dharma Code introduces an on-chain funding mechanism using tokenized ownership and community-based investment models that open access to capital for local creatives. Instead of relying on traditional gatekeepers, artists can now fund projects through a transparent, decentralized system.

Furthermore, by integrating smart contracts for revenue sharing and NFT-based royalty systems, contributors—including actors, crew, and artisans—are guaranteed ongoing compensation linked to the film’s success. This model not only addresses income inequality in the creative sector, but also creates a pathway for sustainable monetization of cultural work, both within Bhutan and on global digital marketplaces.
