SwiftRemit is a peer-to-peer remittance platform built on the Celo blockchain that enables people especially in emerging markets to send money across borders faster, cheaper, and more transparently. The project introduces a group-powered remittance model, where families, friends, or communities can contribute collectively toward a single remittance goal. Once the target amount is reached, funds are released directly to the recipient through a secure on-chain escrow system.
The platform is designed to be accessible for everyday users, not just crypto-native people. That’s why SwiftRemit plans to integrate MiniPay-style phone-number payments, allowing users to send or receive money using simple phone numbers rather than complex wallet addresses. This removes a major adoption barrier and makes blockchain remittances feel as familiar as mobile money.
Our mission is to make cross-border support transparent, affordable, and community-driven. SwiftRemit aims to empower families and groups to send money together with full visibility, guaranteed security, and no hidden costs. By leveraging Celo’s fast, low-cost blockchain and a simple phone-number-based interface, we want to make remittances feel as easy as sending a text message.
SwiftRemit exists to give people especially in emerging markets, the confidence that every contribution counts, every transaction is traceable, and every recipient receives their support without friction or intermediaries.
Sending money across borders is still slow, expensive, and inaccessible, especially for people in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Traditional remittance providers charge 5%–10% fees, require long queues, impose strict banking requirements, and delay transactions for hours or days. For many families who rely on collective support, it is also extremely difficult to pool money transparently. Contributions are usually collected manually through WhatsApp, mobile money, or offline meetups, which leads to delays, mistrust, and lost contributions.
Additionally, remittances typically depend on a single sender. But in real life, families and communities often need to come together to contribute toward school fees, medical bills, rent, food, emergencies, or migration-related expenses. There is no simple, trusted mechanism for everyone to contribute a small amount and release the funds when the full goal is met.
Even when blockchain is considered as an alternative, many users are discouraged by technical barriers like wallet addresses, private keys, network configuration, and crypto jargon
SwiftRemit provides a modern, secure, and community-driven solution for cross-border remittances by combining group contributions, smart-contract escrow, and mobile-friendly design on the Celo blockchain. Instead of relying on expensive intermediaries or informal collection methods, SwiftRemit enables users to create transparent remittance requests where multiple contributors can pool funds toward a specific target amount.
At the core of the solution is an on-chain escrow system that ensures funds remain locked until the full goal is reached. This eliminates trust issues common in group fundraising, where one person typically holds and manages the money. With SwiftRemit, contributors can clearly see progress in real time, and the final payout can only be released by the intended recipient. If the target is not achieved, contributors are automatically refunded without manual intervention.
SwiftRemit also removes friction by allowing users to send funds using phone numbers instead of wallet addresses, inspired by MiniPay’s simplicity. This makes the experience familiar to everyday mobile-money users and helps onboard people who may not be comfortable with traditional crypto tools.
Built on Celo, SwiftRemit benefits from low transaction fees, fast confirmations, and access to stable-value assets like cUSD making cross-border transfers more predictable and affordable. Chainlink price feeds will be integrated to provide real-time forex visibility, ensuring users can initiate remittances at favorable rates.
With a clean, mobile-first interface powered by React, Tailwind, and Wagmi, SwiftRemit delivers an easy “Create → Contribute → Release” flow. The platform transforms remittances into a more transparent, collaborative, and accessible experience for families and communities across emerging markets.
SwiftRemit operates on a transaction-based revenue model with small service fees on every cross-border transfer processed through the platform. Additional revenue streams include FX spread margins, premium features for businesses (such as automated payouts and bulk disbursements), and API-as-a-service for fintechs that want to integrate our remittance rails. As the user base grows, SwiftRemit will scale through volume-driven revenue, partnerships with mobile money operators, and merchant integrations across Africa.
