SunSettings turns sunsets into a simple daily ritual for wellbeing and real-world connection. In a world dominated by doomscrolling and war news, we bring attention back to a basic miracle: the sunset. As “third places” disappear in many cities, we create place and event ex nihilo: an excuse to step outside to a park or waterfront, check in, and share a calm moment. The app gives a clear Go / Maybe / No-go signal (sunset quality score + time window + nearby spots), tracks a personal sunset counter, supports streaks, notes, and gentle mindfulness prompts. Users can keep a private journal, share with friends-only visibility, join local Sunset Clubs, and participate in weekly challenges.
Who it’s for? Wellness-minded city dwellers (18–45), students/expats, park and waterfront walkers/runners, families, and casual weekend travelers — people who don’t want another photo feed, but a trustworthy, low-friction ritual.
Why now? Daily golden/blue hour windows create a natural rhythm (roughly 30–90 minutes and 20–40 minutes). We remove decision friction (“is it worth going out?”) and build a habit loop: prediction → timely nudge → check-in → streak/badge → fair recognition. Celo enables mobile-first on-chain mechanics—fast, low-cost, and easy to hide until users opt in.
SunSettings exists to help people step out of doomscrolling and back into real life by turning everyday natural wonders into simple, safe, repeatable rituals — building offline wellbeing and community through trust, privacy, and fair recognition.
In a news cycle dominated by conflict and endless scrolling, people lose touch with the small, universal wonders that reliably ground mental health — like the sunset. Even when they want to go outside, sunsets often don’t fit into modern schedules: many people are still working when the best light happens (especially in winter), and the “is it worth it today?” uncertainty adds friction. As a result, sunsets get missed by default.
At the same time, many cities are experiencing an erosion of “third places” and low-cost social rituals. Social life becomes increasingly mediated by commercial venues (cafés, bars) or by online feeds, which can amplify isolation and doomscrolling. Existing sunset and “golden hour” tools are mostly built for photographers and optimization—not for everyday wellbeing, habit formation, or safe community.
Finally, platforms that do enable sharing rarely provide fairness, safety, or privacy by design: it’s hard to distinguish authentic “today” moments from old content or spam, and location-sharing can unintentionally create stalking risks. People need a way to make offline life feel like a new kind of luxury — repeatable, social, and safe — without turning nature into another noisy content treadmill.
SunSettings removes the friction that keeps people from actually going outside. It gives a clear sunset quality score with an optimal viewing window and nearby hotspots, so users don’t have to guess whether tonight is worth it or where to go. Because golden hour and blue hour are short — especially in winter — we send timely nudges and make participation lightweight: a quick check-in you can realistically fit into a workday.
Beyond prediction, SunSettings helps people form a healthy routine. A personal counter, streaks, mindful prompts, and optional private notes turn dusk into a low-effort daily ritual rather than another scrolling habit. Finally, we recreate a safe “third place” around nature through opt-in check-ins, local Sunset Clubs, and simple community guidelines — so the experience can be shared without sacrificing privacy or comfort.
