The Santuário das Fadas, located in Teresópolis-RJ, is a pioneer in Brazil and was founded in 2008 by Patrícia Fittipaldi, a veterinarian, vegan, and abolitionist for animal rights.
We carry out work in sheltering, public health, awareness, and education, in addition to generating jobs for several low-income families.
The project began with the intention of rescuing and sheltering animals, especially farm animals, who were victims of mistreatment, abuse, and neglect.
The idea arose because there were very few institutions dedicated to these species, unlike dogs and cats, for whom many organizations already existed.
At Santuário das Fadas, we provide shelter to cattle, horses, pigs, goats, birds in general, some dogs, cats, rodents, and wild animals rescued from trafficking and other situations.
Currently, the sanctuary is home to more than 300 animals. Many arrive in extremely fragile conditions and receive all the treatment and special care necessary to restore their self-esteem and dignity. Here, they live out their lives with love, respect, and freedom.
Santuário das Fadas organizes charity events, bazaars, product sales, experiences, and campaigns to raise funds for its maintenance, in addition to receiving support from collaborators. The organization also rescues animals from illegal slaughterhouses, animals used for labor, and various other forms of exploitation. Some come from trafficking or other situations involving risk and mistreatment.
Furthermore, Santuário das Fadas has been featured in newspaper articles, both printed and online, as well as in TV programs, always recognized as a pioneer and honorable project in Brazil. The sanctuary has also received two public utility titles acknowledging its outstanding work, along with other awards, honors, and recognitions—even internationally.
Our principle is to provide rescued animals with a dignified, safe life filled with love and freedom, as all animals deserve.
