ReFiDAO Saravena is a community located in Saravena, a city in Arauca, Colombia, where conflict and guerrilla activities have impacted the region, in addition to the presence of oil companies in the area.
From the municipal government's side, there are few environmentally impactful proposals. General awareness campaigns have emerged aimed at the population, but with limited impact.
We've taken on the challenge of initiating our ReFi community with the idea of making an impact on our region.
Here's what we aim to achieve:
- Identification of habitats or locations for tree planting.
- Trash collection drive.
- Engaging with foundations or tourism companies to guide tourists off the traditional tourist path, introducing an alternative tourism plan that allows exploration of different positive aspects of Saravena municipality, such as its rivers, farms (banana, cacao, orange, yucca, etc. cultivation).
- Establishing an environmental awareness program in schools, taking students to events focused on cleaning specific areas for tree planting, aiding in river conservation, and creating gardens within educational institutions.
- Promoting a shift in the environmental care culture of the Saravena population, starting with the promotion of biodegradable or reusable bags.
- Advocating for respect towards indigenous communities and contributing to the preservation of their cultures.
