Returning the Spellbook to Open Source MIT
Intro:
For years the collective wisdom of hundreds of data wizards has combined to create the "Spellbook", an open-source and MIT Licensed DBT project fostered by Dune Analytics. The Spellbook is an abstraction layer allowing raw blockchain data to reveal its valuable insights. Dune abandoned the open-source heritage of this resource in June with two decisions.
- They moved from SPARKQL to a closed-source SQL engine called DUNESQL, preventing the Spellbook models from being run on available software
- They put a license on the resource which limits the use of the Spellbook.
Our project is set up to return the Spellbook to open source by forking the last MIT-licensed version, providing retroactive funding to all those who contributed, and raising an initial pool of capital to fund future contributions to updating the OS Spellbook.
Objectives:
- Return the Spellbook to where it belongs: Open Source
- Provide retroactive funding for those who built the Spellbook
- Create a pool of capital to continue funding wizards who maintain Spellbook
Budget:
The proposed budget for Open Source Spellbook is as follows:
Retroactive Funding:
- If <20k is received: 100% of the Grant
- We will assume we don't have the interest or capital to fund a DAO moving forward due to the lack of contributions.
- If >20k is received: 50% of the Grant
- We will assume we have sufficient community interest and capital to cre...
