What are you building?: Octav is a free & editable Web3 data analytics platform. Octav tracks your portfolio's performance cross-chain, including rewards earned from protocol deposits, liquidity pool yields, and a snapshot of all your DeFi and NFT positions. Octav's curated database serves as a DeFi data labeler, catering to the needs of traders, tax professionals, and liquid asset management firms by translating protocol addresses & functions codes into their action names. Octav also acts as a comprehensive pre-tax facilitator, offering essential features such as cost-basis calculation, profit and loss tracking, net worth, and more.Central to Octav’s offering is the Brain - a learning mechanism that provides suggestions on how to categorize various transactions. The Brain offers Octav a way to onboard new protocols and tokens as quickly as they are created - which is important given how frequently new projects can be launched. The Brain is essential to ensure community members are not faced with a mountain of incorrect data they need to manually edit come tax time or any other milestone for their portfolios.
Common use cases include data management and export for taxes, portfolio tracking, as well as curated custom reports for specific on-chain assets and specific strategies (ie, simple buy/sell reports or reports on LPing or staking certain assets in certain timeframes, etc). Additionally, because all data is on-chain rather than fetched from an API, in many cases community members have found assets they forgot they owned as they were not tracked by other portfolio tracking tools. The Brain is a community-driven project, community members can suggest edits to protocols to better reflect results such as transaction type, protocol name, profit, etc. When the Brain learns from a community member’s edit it pushes the correct changes to the entire Octav community..
