In the Amazon headwaters, Indigenous stewards and local communities face intense pressure from illegal logging and mining ventures, which endanger critical forest ecosystems and cultural heritage.
Funds raised in Gitcoin will support workshops which model collaboration between indigenous communities, scientists, and diverse stakeholders to create ecocredits which reflect both critical ecosystem functions with cultural heritage.

The Sharamentsa community of the Achuar Nation is collaborating with the Regen Network to safeguard 10,000-hectares of primary rainforest, through a novel funding mechanism called ecocredits.
We are developing a framework for the integrated design of ecocredits which centers local governance around the terms and valuation of regeneration. This approach explores the potential of DAO governance and blockchain currencies for eco-social regeneration.
The design of these ecocredits is prototypical. Three neighboring indigenous communities plan to adopt this framework to their biocultural context. This, in turn, supports implementation in the broader Amazon region, and beyond.
This project not only aims to restore critical jaguar habitats but also reinforces the socio-economic fabric of indigenous communities, on their own terms, by creating sustainable livelihoods through the innovative use of blockchain technology for environmental data integrity and credit transactions.
Donors to the project that include a REGEN address will receive proof of Jaguar ecocredit retirement to their address.
