🌍 The Challenge We’re Tackling
Across many rural communities, tree cover is rapidly declining due to unstructured farming practices and the removal of high-value tree species. This impacts soil fertility, biodiversity, and long-term agricultural productivity, reducing the economic potential of trees like palm and cashew.
In Amalla Community, Udenu LGA, Enugu State, Nigeria, we are reversing this trend through tree conservation and structured reforestation, ensuring that trees remain a lasting environmental and economic asset.
📜 Our Solution
At Ginakev Farms, we integrate tree conservation with large-scale reforestation. By securing 100 plots (≈11.48 acres / 4.65 hectares) since inception, we are:
- Preserving mature cashew trees
- Expanding cashew tree cultivation
- Scaling palm tree reforestation
- Ensuring long-term land conservation
This climate-positive approach strengthens biodiversity, restores tree cover, and provides sustainable income for local farmers.
🌱 Our Actions
🌳 Cashew Tree Conservation & Expansion (2023-2024)
- Existing mature cashew trees protected on 5 plots (≈0.57 acres / 0.23 hectares) to maintain biodiversity and soil health.
- 82 new cashew trees planted across 15 plots (≈1.72 acres / 0.70 hectares) as part of reforestation efforts.
🌴 Palm Tree Reforestation (2025 & Beyond)
- 643 palm trees to be planted across 80 plots (≈9.18 acres / 3.72 hectares) in 2025 for structured agroforestry.
- Long-term vision: Expand to 800 plots (≈91.8 acres / 37.2 hectares) for a 5,000-tree palm reforestation initiative.
🛠️ Foundational Infrastructure (2025 & Beyond)
- Geological Survey: Conducting water table assessment to identify viable borehole locations.
- Borehole Drilling: Providing clean water access to support both irrigation and local needs.
- Perimeter Fencing: Installing barbed wire fence to secure the 100-plot land area.
- Beekeeping & Pollinator Conservation: Constructing beehives and conserving bee populations to support pollination and biodiversity.
🌍 Land Conservation & Agroforestry Integration
- Preserving tree-rich farmlands while replanting old trees responsibly.
- Encouraging farmers to integrate tree planting into their agricultural practices.
- Securing a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for long-term land security and sustainable management.
