Ethereum Cat Herders have been supporting Ethereum Protocol development and process improvement since 2019. Our role is to facilitate communication, collaboration, community engagement, and provide content to make informed decision for network upgrades. We are vital in coordinating and streamlining the Ethereum protocol standard process, acting as facilitators and mediators among developers, researchers, and community members. Together with core developers and EIP authors, we actively engage in network upgrades, ensuring the smooth implementation of proposed improvements and enhancements to the Ethereum ecosystem.
By funding the Ethereum Cat Herders, Octant funds directly support our initiatives, including creating educational content, funding EIP Editors, developing and maintaining bots for the EIPs GitHub repository, and documenting Ethereum's public meeting notes. These efforts contribute to the dissemination of knowledge, efficient management of proposals, and transparent decision-making processes within the Ethereum ecosystem. Our educational resources, such as the PEEPanEIP & Ecosystem Project Demo video playlist, provide accessible and comprehensive explanations of important proposals, fostering a greater understanding of the technical aspects and implications of the Ethereum network upgrades.
The Ethereum Cat Herders (ECH) are here to make Ethereum easier to understand and more accessible to everyone. Our mission is to help people learn about the Ethereum protocol, guide them through the EIP process, and encourage both technical and non-technical contributions. We create clear and simple content, provide helpful resources, and support the community to ensure everyone can take part in building and improving Ethereum.
The Ethereum ecosystem faces critical gaps in awareness, including the lack of easily understandable (ELI5) content related to Ethereum protocol updates, insufficient process information and documentation, and a lack of clear points of contact for EIP-related queries.
Additionally, there is a notable deficiency in accessible information for individuals interested in contributing to Ethereum at both the protocol and non-technical levels.
These issues collectively hinder the broader community's ability to engage with, understand, and contribute to the ongoing development of the Ethereum network.
The Ethereum Cat Herders (ECH) tackle these challenges by implementing several initiatives beyond just creating developer meeting notes. ECH produces and curates ELI5 (Explain Like I’m 5) content like PEEPanEIP & Ecosystem Project Demo that simplifies complex protocol updates, making them accessible to a broader audience. We also work on improving process documentation and ensuring that it is up-to-date, comprehensive, and easily navigable, which helps community members understand how Ethereum governance and development processes work.
To address the lack of a clear point of contact for EIP-related questions, ECH has established a dedicated support system - EIP Editing Office Hour, inviting community engagement through Discord channel, where individuals can ask questions and get guidance on EIP processes.
Moreover, ECH actively promotes opportunities for both technical and non-technical contributions to the Ethereum ecosystem by creating and distributing resources that guide newcomers on how they can get involved, whether through coding, documentation, community building, or other forms of participation.
These efforts by ECH help bridge the knowledge gap within the Ethereum community, foster greater participation, and ensure that more people can contribute effectively to the ongoing evolution of the Ethereum protocol.
