Individuals with physical disabilities, particularly those with limited mobility, face significant barriers when participating in hackathons and tech events. Traditional formats rely heavily on in-person attendance and manual identity verification processes, which can exclude specially-abled participants from equal opportunities to collaborate and showcase their skills. Furthermore, most virtual event platforms fail to provide secure, verifiable, and socially engaging environments, limiting meaningful interaction and recognition for remote participants. There is a critical need for an accessible, blockchain-enabled platform that ensures inclusivity, authenticity, and equitable participation for all innovators, regardless of physical ability or location.
ETH Connect addresses these accessibility and inclusion challenges by creating a virtual event platform. The platform integrates on-chain identity verification through the Self Protocol, eliminating the need for traditional KYC while maintaining trust and security. Events are coordinated via smart contracts on the Celo blockchain, ensuring transparent registration, participation tracking, and fair reward distribution.
Participants can engage in a 2D metaverse environment that simulates real hackathon spaces, allowing users—especially those with mobility limitations—to network, collaborate, and build projects in real time through customizable avatars.
