Eternal Forest creates 1,000 forest sanctuaries through art and biodiversity stewarded by local communities and protected for 1,000 years.
The project supports communities to restore and protect biodiversity habitats, by bringing together art and regeneration, creating legacy to stand for centuries.
Our mission is to create artistically designed forest sanctuaries—places where humans and wildlife can coexist, thrive, and leave a lasting natural and cultural legacy.
How: Eternal Forest sanctuary is created through art-science residencies, artistic trails and interventions connecting communities to their natural environment as stewards responsible for the future forest sanctuary.
Partners: Eternal Forest collaborates with land-based projects, eco-resorts, local governments and land trusts, growing a movement of artists, scientists, cultural organisations, tree-planting and conservation initiatives, foundations and land partners.
The movement of land regeneration is growing and we are teaming up with communities and projects that commit to long-term land stewardship. We are in conversation with 10 land projects in Portugal, France, Spain, and Romania joining the Eternal Forest network at this stage. Communities are seeking a shared vision, practical tools, and guidance to protect and regenerate forests.
From our primary cohort of 4 projects in northern Portugal, we're creating inter-supportive networks, tenderly restoring native ecosystems while honouring local traditions and stories. In Portugal, we are working with a local Municipality, reforestation and conservation projects, a wellness retreat centre and artist residencies.
Our process is focused on identifying communities and projects for future forest sanctuaries, helping to create a local consortium of aligned partners, with clear strategy, timelines and funding, co-create a forest sanctuary with an ongoing cultural and artistic program.
Each tree planted is a promise to the future, each protected hectare a gift to our grandchildren's grandchildren, each community connected to their forest is a guarantee of this forest standing for the long-term.
With your help, we can establish a mutually supportive network of Eternal Forest sanctuaries, creating places of beauty, reflection, and regeneration.
