With 70% of surface water sources in Nigeria contaminated by pollutants such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites (WHO/UNICEF, 2020), projects like this are crucial for ensuring public health and preventing waterborne diseases. The project, initiated by Helpers Social Development Foundation (HSDF), brings tremendous benefits to the community, providing a reliable and safe water source, which reduces the risks associated with relying on contaminated streams and rivers. Clean water is vital for health, nutrition, and economic development and its availability will reduce the dangers faced by children fetching unsafe water, improve sanitation, and enhance overall community well-being. Helpers Social Development Foundation planted 81 trees at Uwani River primary with the school pupils. We provide Climate Change Education + Action, and Increasing Climate Resilience for Underserved public schools in Nigeria. Education and action are needed to create sustained change in local communities. On 4th June, Helpers Foundation project team paid advocacy visit to local government education authority to brief them about proposed education and Climate change initiative in public school for them to approve our request to plant trees in identified schools without trees. This advocacy visit gives us the aid to start tree planting initiative in schools without trees on 21st June 2024.
