GEN Ukraine — Regenerative Communities for a Resilient Future
GEN Ukraine is a grassroots network of over 60 eco-settlements across the country, formed in response to the war and ecological crisis. Together, we are building resilient, self-sufficient communities rooted in regenerative land practices, ecological education, mutual aid, and decentralized solutions. With over 500 people involved—among them displaced families, local villagers, volunteers, and veterans—we co-create spaces of hope, healing, and practical sustainability.
Our members implement agroforestry, composting, mulching, biofiltration, and rainwater harvesting, reviving degraded land and restoring ecosystems. As part of our climate action strategy, we are expanding protected natural areas and initiating community-led reserves and biodiversity zones. These grassroots conservation efforts are deeply tied to local traditions and aimed at preserving water, soil, and native species.
We are now preparing to launch community-driven carbon credit projects in partnership with Regen Network, enabling our eco-settlements to earn fair compensation for climate-positive practices like carbon sequestration, reforestation, and soil regeneration. At the same time, we are partnering with Open Forest Protocol to digitally map and verify our tree-planting efforts, ensuring transparency, traceability, and global impact recognition.
At GEN Ukraine, we believe that even in times of crisis, we can lay the foundations for a regenerative future—one garden, one solar panel, one shared space at a time. Our work bridges local action with global systems change, demonstrating that small investments in grassroots resilience can create ripple effects across communities, landscapes, and generations.
Mission Summary
GEN Ukraine’s mission is to regenerate land, restore communities, and build climate resilience through a decentralized network of eco-settlements. We empower local people—including displaced families, veterans, and villagers—to co-create sustainable livelihoods using nature-based solutions, renewable energy, and regenerative agriculture.
By connecting grassroots action with global tools like carbon credits (via Regen Network) and digital forest monitoring (via Open Forest Protocol), we unlock new pathways for ecological restoration, economic justice, and long-term peacebuilding in Ukraine.
Ukraine is facing a multi-layered crisis: war, displacement, ecological degradation, and rural collapse. Many regions suffer from deforestation, soil erosion, water scarcity, and loss of biodiversity. At the same time, local communities lack access to energy, food security, and economic opportunities. Displaced families and vulnerable groups are left with minimal infrastructure or support to rebuild their lives.
While global climate finance and carbon markets grow, Ukrainian grassroots communities remain excluded from these systems due to lack of tools, recognition, and access. The need for localized, regenerative solutions is urgent—yet support is fragmented, and the potential of community-led land stewardship remains largely untapped.
Solution
GEN Ukraine empowers a decentralized network of 60+ eco-settlements to restore ecosystems, support displaced people, and build climate resilience from the ground up. Through regenerative land practices like agroforestry, composting, and water retention, communities reclaim degraded land and create local solutions for food, energy, and shelter.
We are developing tools to integrate grassroots efforts into global systems—partnering with Regen Network to launch Ukraine’s first community-based carbon credit initiatives, and with Open Forest Protocol to digitally verify tree planting and ecosystem restoration. This ensures transparency, measurable climate impact, and access to carbon markets for rural and displaced communities.
By combining nature-based solutions, digital tools, and deep community care, we turn crisis into opportunity—regenerating land, livelihoods, and hope.
