Originally incubated as the **Sustainable Blockchain Summit (SBS)** by the **Filecoin Green Team at Protocol Labs**, Earth Commons has since evolved into an **international initiative** that engages Web3 and Web2 innovators, academia, NGOs, intergovernmental organizations, public institutions, philanthropy, and the financial sector. The mission is to **transform the funding and governance of nature’s commons**—from forests and oceans to biodiversity and climate resilience—by advancing **decentralized governance and sustainable finance as key pillars for solving shared global challenges**. Since March 2024, **Funding the Commons** has been developing **Earth Commons** as a dedicated platform to explore **new models of governance and resource allocation for planetary commons**.
