According to DeSci Landscape Analysis 2022 from TalentDAO and DeSciWorld, less than 10% DeSci Projects are focusing at Asia.

DeSci Asia aims to address several key challenges in the traditional scientific and research ecosystem, leveraging decentralized technologies such as blockchain to foster innovation, transparency, and collaboration. The specific problems DeSci Asia seeks to solve include:

1. Access to Scientific Knowledge

• Problem: Traditional scientific journals and research papers are often locked behind paywalls, making knowledge inaccessible to a broader audience, especially in developing regions.
• Solution: DeSci Asia promotes open access and decentralized publishing models, allowing for free and universal access to scientific knowledge.

2. Funding and Resource Allocation

• Problem: Research funding is often controlled by large institutions and governments, leading to inequitable distribution and bureaucratic delays. Early-stage or unconventional research may struggle to receive financial support.
• Solution: By leveraging decentralized funding mechanisms like Gitcoin & GIVETH, DeSci Asia democratizes access to funding, allowing researchers to directly connect with funders.

3. Lack of Collaboration Across Borders

• Problem: Research is often siloed within specific countries or institutions, limiting global collaboration and slowing the advancement of knowledge.
• Solution: DeSci Asia fosters an inclusive, cross-border community of researchers, enabling greater collaboration through decentralized platforms and global networking opportunities.

4. Building Sustainable Scientific Communities in Asia

• Problem: Many emerging scientific communities in Asia face challenges in organizing and sustaining themselves due to limited local resources and support.
• Solution: DeSci Asia actively supports the development of grassroots DeSci communities across Asia, providing them with resources, guidance, and funding to ensure sustainability and growth.

By solving these challenges, DeSci Asia aims to revolutionize the way science is conducted, funded, shared, and governed across the continent, creating a more equitable and efficient scientific ecosystem.

To apply for Gitcoin, GIVETH and other grants to enhance our visibility and draw more DeSci enthusiasts to our cause. The funds raised through Gitcoin will be allocated to support the following initiatives:

50% of the funds will be dedicated to the translation or publication of DeSci articles by our members.

30% of the funds will be utilized for local DeSci meetups and events.

20% of the funds will be invested in the long-term development and sustainability of the DeSci Asia community.
