Check-IA by is a misinformation verification tool designed by AGENTSIA for the Sahel region, enabling users to validate text and images while promoting digital literacy in local languages such as Bambara and Fulani.
Our mission is to empower citizens, journalists, and community leaders in Mali and the Sahel to combat misinformation through accessible, AI-powered verification tools. By delivering real-time fact-checking in French and Bambara, we aim to build digital resilience, strengthen public trust, and support democratic participation across the region.
In Mali and the Sahel region, misinformation is fueling political instability, eroding public trust, and weakening social cohesion. With adult literacy at just 31% and social media amplifying false narratives around health, elections, education, and gender, citizens lack accessible, localized tools to verify online content in real time.
Traditional fact-checking is too slow, inaccessible, and culturally misaligned—particularly for French and local languages like Bambara.
We will build an AI-powered mobile platform that enables users to verify text and images in real time, in French and Bambara. Our solution combines fine-tuned language models (RoBERTa + LLaMA) with open-source infrastructure to deliver fast, accurate fact-checking that is culturally relevant and accessible in low-connectivity environments. We will also cultivate an ecosystem of trusted partners, including fact-checking organizations, government agencies, and community leaders, to ensure sustainable impact at scale.
