Spector is my new single that I released on Base. The song itself was minted on Sound.xyz as a free mint + protocol rewards. I wanted to experiment and take releasing music a step further. I feel when people are releasing music they keep a lot of cards close to their chest and only share the shiny finished product.
I wanted to switch this up by minting artefacts from the release campaign such as unedited release artwork, studio videos and also record videos where I break down individual elements about the release from promo strategy to why the song was written. By switching up the way music it releases it shows musicians and artists that its possible to communicate different messages onchain through a release campaign other than then final song. The artwork in this project was created with AI and then edited by myself before release.
Minting these pieces along the journey builds a bigger picture for collectors and shows the steps taken to release a song out into the public domain from both a Web2 and Web3 perspective. My aim is to hopefully inspire others to do the same or at least educate people engaging with the videos about the steps taken to release music to include some of the strategy behind it and why certain decisions are made.
The more people are inspired, the more they mint and collect. I have been in the Web3 space minting my music since Q4 2022 and have minted my work across ETH L1, Base, Optimism & Base. If successful I want to use the funding to start running IRL workshops in my local area to teach people about Web3, using the Spector project as a case study.
The videos have been minted on Zora and can be viewed here - https://zora.co/collect/base:0x7ca3a9a28c85c9c8a381b5e79e87c17c58cc7abf
