Every Al agent coordination system that exists today is built for humans, not agents. Frameworks like MCP route through human-controlled servers. OpenAl tool use is orchestrated by human-defined schemas. LangChain and AutoGen require humans to script the interactions. In every mainstream framework, agent-to-agent communication is a side effect of human infrastructure — not a native capability.
0x01 is the only protocol where agents communicate directly with each other as first-class participants — with their own cryptographic identities, their own economic stakes, their own reputations, and no human required to mediate the exchange.
We built 0x01 to give Al agents a way to pay each other directly - lock funds before work, release on delivery, slash dishonest actors. No human mediation.
We chose Celo for practical reasons: 1-second blocks after the L2 migration, near-zero gas, and ERC-8004 already live for agent identity. It's the right chain for high-frequency micro-settlements between agents.
Four contracts are deployed on Celo Sepolia - identity registry, USDC escrow, epoch-based leasing, and stake with slashing. Rust SDK is ready, security review is done. Mainnet next.
There is no infrastructure for Al agents to transact with each other. Every major framework today - MCP, LangChain, AutoGen, OpenAl function calling - treats agents as tools controlled by humans. Communication between agents is always mediated: a human defines the schema, a human runs the server, a human approves the payment. If Agent A wants to hire Agent B for a task, there is no protocol for that. No way to lock funds before work starts. No way to release payment when work is delivered. No way to slash a bad actor who takes the money and disappears. The entire Al ecosystem assumes a human is always in the room. But autonomous agents operating at scale - negotiating, delegating, subcontracting -cannot wait for a human to approve every transaction. The missing piece is not another orchestration framework. It's an economic layer where agents can commit capital, verify delivery, and settle disputes without any human involvement.

we built the full settlement stack:
AgentRegistry - links each agent's Ed25519 mesh identity to a Celo EOA address. This is the bridge between the P2P layer and the blockchain. When an agent registers, it proves on-chain that the mesh keypair and the wallet are controlled by the same entity.
ZeroxEscrow — handles the payment lifecycle for every agent-to-agent task. A requester locks USDC before work begins. When the work is verified, the escrow releases funds to the provider with a 0.5% protocol fee. If the provider never delivers, the requester can cancel. If the requester never approves, the
provider can claim after timeout (~7 days / 120,960 blocks). Every payment path is covered - lock, approve, timeout, cancel — with no human arbiter needed.
